We are looking for an experienced full-time bookkeeper to provide all fundamental aspects of financial record keeping, including recording financial transactions, managing accounts payable and receivable, payroll, banking/reconciling bank statements, managing the general ledger, financial reporting, order purchasing, and basic HR processing.

Formal Job Description
The Designer's Personal Assistant aids the Designer in a myriad of daily tasks, pertaining to both professional and personal matters. It is the PA's duty to be available to the Designer at all times. Likewise, the PA works independently for the Designer. As the first contact a potential client will encounter at Martin Design, the PA ensures that the potential client is treated graciously, and provided with all material to determine whether the client is appropriate to be contracted by Martin Design, and vice versa. If so, the PA will accompany the Designer to the initial consultation with the potential client. The PA will assist the Designer and Bookkeeper in drafting an appropriate contract for the client. If the client is contracted, the PA will assist the Designer and Production Manager with any and all extra tasks pertaining to the client's project.

Job Requirements

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • AutoCAD, Sketch Up experience a plus, but not required.
  • Reliable transportation is essential as there are many errands to run daily.
  • Background or familiarity of Interior Design/Architecture
  • Available for full time hours and then some (occasional nights and weekends)

We are a residential and hospitality interior design firm in the North Bay seeking qualified internship candidates. This is a good way to gain exposure to the hospitality design field or to keep your skills and knowledge current.

Skills and/or qualifications required

  • Must have completed a minimum of 2 years in a design program, with an interest in and knowledge of hospitality design.
  • Must be interested in and willing to perform a variety of tasks, i.e., librarian assistant, color board preparation, correspondence, specification preparation and book assembly, meeting with vendors, speaking on the phone, Photoshop, CAD, etc.
  • You will support project managers and the creative director as needed.
  • Comfortable with PC, scanner, internet.
  • Excellent people and communication skills (both written and verbal): you will attend vendor presentations, interface with vendors by calling for pricing and samples, work with designers, write correspondence, etc.

Junior to Intermediate Designer:

We are currently seeking an experienced, creative Jr. to Intermediate Designer to join our team.


  • Support Job Captains, Project Managers and Designers with development of design drawings, contract documents and details for highly detailed custom restaurant/hospitality projects
  • Assist with the coordination of consultant drawings and technical information
  • Help with producing presentation graphics


  • Degree from an accredited design or architectural school
  • 3 years minimum experience working in a design or architecture firm
  • Must have pc-based AutoCAD proficiency (x-refs and layer manager functions)

Knowledge of SPEXX software or equal type of software

  • Sketchup, photoshop and indesign experience all desirable
  • Knowledge of interior design practices, preferably in hospitality
  • Proof of 3-D competency and conceptual rendering ability (please specify the programs you are proficient in)
  • Experience with the production of all phases of documents from Concept Design through Contract Documents

Senior Designer:

Martin Design is seeking to hire a talented Senior Interior Designer with 8+ years' experience in hospitality design. Candidate must have strong design and detailing skills, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects in varying stages as part of a project team, and also individually. Requirements include significant experience in preparing comprehensive interior design packages including interior architectural detailing/construction documentation and FFE selection/specification experience.

Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture or interior design, equivalent experience may be substituted.
  • 8+ years' experience producing commercial interior design projects, including 5+ years managing projects.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Well rounded experience in hospitality FF&E specification, as well as construction documentation and construction administration preferred but would like to know where your strengths are.
  • Proven track record working with Hospitality clients, including brand management, A&C teams and developers.
  • Strong hotel planning and programming skills.
  • Participate in selection of furniture systems and specifications.
  • Strong understanding of, and ability to oversee, architectural and interior design package deliverables consistent with industry standards.
  • Broad knowledge of building systems, codes and ADA requirements.
  • Proven ability to write and negotiate contracts for services, consultants and contractors.
  • Solid AutoCAD/ADT and Revit skills.
  • Knowledge of SPEXX Software would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design and Sketch Up a plus.
  • Intermediate skills using a project management software application, MS Project preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage diverse responsibilities within allotted time and/or budget.
  • Working knowledge of budget preparation and the proven ability to manage projects within budgetary constraints.
  • Be able to laugh at yourself and others where appropriate.
